Japanese Royal Couple Visits Sultan Azlan Shah Gallery


KUALA KANGSAR, June 10 (Bernama) — Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko
who are on a one-day visit here toured the Sultan Azlan Shah Gallery at
Bukit Chandan Saturday afternoon.

Accompanied by the Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Nazrin Shah, they
signed the visitors’ book and spent about 20 minutes at the gallery
which exhibited a collection of artifacts, regalia and a family tree of
the Perak sultanate.

Other artifacts include Sultan Azlan Shah’s belongings such a
tricycle and a bicycle used by him during his school days, his
photographs from his schooldays, his family, his sporting activities,
especially hockey, his achievements in the legal service and his tenure
as the Sultan of Perak.

Opened in 2003, the gallery was set up with the aim of compiling,
researching, displaying and publishing the relics and cultures of the
sultanate.

The gallery was transformed from the 93-year-old Hulu Palace or Kota Bukit Chandan Palace.

Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko later visited the Malay College Kuala Kangsar.

On the way to the school the royal motorcade slowed down for them
to take a look at the oldest rubber tree in the country near the Kuala
Kangsar district office.
